The block is die cut into 8 wedges that have a tapered feather-edge finish on the long edge, unlike a blunt square end as many other pro grade sponges have. The smooth tapered long edge is important to have for precise application and blending, especially for small areas around the eyes. The sponges can also be used wet or dry, and are a must for latex allergy sensitive skins. You can also pull them apart in half and use the resulting dimpled ends for even finer stippling techniques in applying makeup!
